Tiernan's Summon: Mountain 1The Mountains
"If you didn't wish to leave with me, and if you really didn't want me to ride you, you should have said something before we left."
Paora sniffed pensively, "There is never any arguing with the Forest King."
That ended that, and Tiernan and Paora rode on in silence for awhile. They had been travelling for half a day now, and the Forest had become more and more sparse the further they went into the Fulke Mountain Ranges.
Tiernan leaned forward in his saddle, causing an indignant squawk from Paora. "How far will we have to go to reach the oracle?" he asked, ignoring her reproachful glare.
"A long while yet," she said, "It will take a while to cross these mountains, and many times as long to reach the big city. And then a while still to reach the oracle." To Demons, distance was a thing unmeasured, and time even more so. Tiernan sighed and curled up near Paora's neck. A while was a long time.

Tiernan's Summon: Village 2The Village
Tiernan awoke to the sounds of Demon chattering. He uncurled himself from his perch upon the warm rock he always slept on and blinked the sleep from his eyes.
"What is it?" he asked, and there was a lull in the chatter.
Many of the Forest's Demons were gathered in a cluster not too far from where he had been sleeping. The little Demons were the quickest to respond.

"What is it, Paora?" Tiernan asked, holding the note up.

Giedrius, the Land of Demons.
A formerly powerful country laid to ruin twenty years ago with the twin eruptions of hellfire from Fulke Mountain and the Desert of Shifting Sands.
Our story starts here, on the Western border of Giedrius, in the Forest of Demons within which the Village of Partha is nestled. This little village high up in the wooded mountain ranges past Fulke Mountains is remote and secluded, guarded at three sides by the Forest.
Little do the people care for the Demons of the Forest, but little do they hate them. They go only as far as needed for supplies in the forest and avoid intruding upon the Demons' territories.
The Demons of the Forest guard the village well, but care just as little for the villagers. They drive off malicious intruders and leave the village and its inhabitants alone, staying out of sight as much as possible.
A timorous relationship to be sure, but neither side resents it and ne
