Gijinka: yin and yang

Description

I decided to go with the yin/yang instead of dragon/phoenix for the gender determination. Fashioned after Chinese royalty/deities clothing.

The legend of Lugia and Ho-oH (gijinka-verse):

Many centuries ago, the Lord of the Sky, the Imperious Ho-oh, fell in love with the caretaker of Bell Tower, a mortal woman by the name of Lugia. Ho-oH's desire for her to remain with him forever increased until the gods on the Celestial Plane (Kanto's main religious deities) deigned to "bless" the two together and caused Lugia's ascension.

However, the blessing did not go as planned, for Lugia's newly awakened powers were far greater than anyone had anticipated. A careless beat of her wings could cause global storms and a sigh could cause global flooding for 40 days and 40 nights.

The gentle Lugia would not stand for such destruction, and soon isolated herself deep under the sea, slowly learning how to control her powers and governing the waves. Ho-oh was distraught, for he was unable to go see her beneath the sea, being the God of the Skies.

A century later, Ecruteak had erected a new religious tower to Ho-oh, leaving the Bell Tower in worship of their new sea goddess. The three caretakers of both towers, Suicune, Entei, and Raikou, were brothers who lived in strict ascetic training at both, true disciples of the God and Goddess.

An innocent comment by Suicune, who merely wondered if it would have been better for both Lugia and Ho-oh to never have loved each other since both were now broken-hearted and unable to meet, incited the fury of Ho-oh. The true and terrible fury of Ho-oh rained lightning upon Ecruteak until Ho-oh's tower was thoroughly razed to the ground, and the three brothers perished in the fire.

As the rain fell and quelled both fire and Ho-oh's anger, Ho-oh regretted his actions and brought the brothers back to life, though with immortal and powerful bodies. However it soon became clear that their powers, like Lugia's, were too powerful for the untrained. Whenever Entei or Raikou spoke, natural catastrophes occurred about them, and the ground where they stood for too long would turn to molten lava or be riddled with lightning bolts.

Entei and Raikou soon took to roaming the world, leaving Suicune behind, distraught that by his mispoken words he had cursed his brothers far worse than he had been cursed. (Though later it was shown that Suicune merely had better control over his powers.) Suicune buried himself below the remains of the burned tower, suspending himself in motion as his penance.

Grieved by the results of his actions, and feeling as if he could never face Lugia again, Ho-oh took to the skies. And to this day, he is flying without rest as his own self-penance for bringing grief to all he touched.

Moral of the story: Don't give humans God-powers!

Well, I prefer their genders reversed, but... gosh, who damn cares? This is so pretty!
